The Practices

A Guide for Daily Practices

A simple guide for busy disciples — 30 – 40 minutes in the morning, and 30 minutes in the evening. Believers are encouraged to begin with 1 hour a day practising the following exercises (disciplines) for the first month or two, until they become your daily habit.
Once the practices have become daily, weekly and monthly habits, you may want to build on them and extend their time. For example, increase prayer time and waiting on God to 15 or 20 minutes each. Once this time is comfortable, increase Scripture reading and meditation time, and so forth as your personal lifestyle allows.

You can print out the bookmarks, which give a quick guide to the practices and can be found at the bottom of the Resources page. You can print them, cut and laminate them to keep in your Bible as a guide through the practices. Bookmark link: Resources

The daily guide:

Morning Practice (Approx. 30-35 minutes)
1. Morning Prayer (10 minutes)

Begin your day by presenting yourself to God.
“Lord, I offer myself to You today as a living sacrifice. May my heart, mind, and body be Yours in all I do. Lead me by Your Spirit in Your way.”
Give thanks to the Lord for the blessings in your life. Bring the things that are on your heart to God – your concerns, your needs, your family, the desires of your heart. Ask God to help you grow, to guide you and strengthen you in your daily walk with Him.
End by thanking God that He has heard your prayers, and asking all these things in Jesus name.

2. Waiting on God (10 minutes)
Sit quietly before the Lord. Breathe slowly and invite His presence.
You might say:
“Thank You, Father, that You made a way into Your Presence, through Jesus and His death on the cross. I quiet my body, soul and spirit, to sit at Your feet, to worship and wait on You. I ask that You meet me here in this place of surrender.
“Give me ears to hear what You want to say to me. Give me an open heart to receive whatever You say. If you bless me and encourage me, I will receive and thank You. If you correct me, I will receive and thank You. Speak Lord, Your servant is listening.”
Allow your mind to rest on the Lord and listen. If you find this hard, try reflecting on God’s goodness and His mighty deeds, on salvation, creation and God’s great power at work all around you. Then sit in an attitude of awe, wonder and thanksgiving, appreciating the Lord.

3. Scripture Reading & Meditation (10 minutes)
Read a passage from the Gospels, Romans 12, Psalms, or Proverbs.
Ask:
What is God revealing about Himself?
What is He inviting me to do today?
Having a journal to write down any revelations that God gives is a great way to remember and reflect on the things God has spoken to you.
Write or remember one phrase to carry with you (for example, “Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”).

4. Praise and Thanksgiving (5-10 minutes)
Thank God for His blessings, both great and small.
Sing a hymn or play a worship song.
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” — Psalm 103:2

Throughout the Day
1. Loving Action
Ask God to show you one person to serve, encourage, or forgive today.
Be intentional about one small act of kindness or mercy.
“Let us love not with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” — 1 John 3:18

2. Practising the Presence of God
Pause often to acknowledge God’s nearness — at work, while driving, walking, or cooking. Whisper a short prayer or word of gratitude.

3. Hearing the Spirit’s Voice
Stay alert to the quiet promptings of the Holy Spirit. He may lead you to pray, listen, give, share your testimony or encourage.

Evening Practice (Approx. 30 minutes)
1. Evening Prayer (10 minutes)
Invite the Holy Spirit to bring your day before you. Pray as the Spirit leads you.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart… lead me in the way everlasting.” — Psalm 139:23–24

2. Reflection of the Day (10 minutes)
Take time to review your day with God:
Where did I notice God’s presence or grace today?
Did I respond to His voice or prompting?
Where did I fall short or need forgiveness?
For what can I give thanks tonight?
You may wish to write a brief journal note or pray through your answers.

3. Scripture and Devotional Reading (10 minutes)
Read a chapter of Scripture, a Psalm or short devotional before sleep.
Let God’s Word settle in your heart as your final thought of the day.
“I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” — Psalm 4:8

Encouragement for Growth
Small, consistent practices shape a lifetime of discipleship.
Even 21 days of steady prayer, Bible reading and reflection can begin to form new spiritual habits.
As these rhythms become natural, your heart will rest more easily in the presence of Christ.

Service 3

Daily, Weekly, Monthly Rhythms

The Way of Rhythm
A Weekly and Monthly Companion for Members of The Fellowship of The Way

Living in Rhythm with the Spirit
The Christian life is not a sprint, but a steady walk in step with the Holy Spirit.
These weekly and monthly practices create a sacred rhythm — drawing believers closer to Jesus, deepening love for others, and rooting faith and action in daily life.
This is not a burden of law but a pattern of grace: a way to align heart, soul, and body with the presence of Christ.

Weekly Rhythms
1. The Lord’s Day – Worship and Communion
Each week, gather with your local church family to fellowship, worship, pray, and partake in communion — the sacred remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice.
Through the bread and cup, we renew our covenant and unity with the Body of Christ.
“Do this in remembrance of Me.” — Luke 22:19

2. Weekly Bible Study
You can follow the Fellowship’s guide (see Weekly Study page) for prescribed teachings, or you can choose your own topic of study (preferably with a group).
Each member listens to the teaching on their own throughout the week, and then meets with their group at a set time each week.
Reflect personally and be prepared to share any insights with your group or online gathering.
As we learn together, the Word becomes living and active among us.
Encouragement: Keep a small notebook for key verses or personal insights that the Holy Spirit highlights each week.

3. Weekly Fellowship Gathering
Meet weekly with other members — in homes, churches, or online — for prayer, encouragement, and worship.
These times of shared faith remind us that we are not alone on the journey.
Your gathering may include:
Worship and song
Reading and reflection on Scripture
Sharing testimonies and answered prayers
Praying for one another and the world
A shared meal or communion
“Where two or three gather in My name, there am I with them.” — Matthew 18:20

4. Weekly Fast
Once each week, fast from a meal, a habit, or something that distracts you (e.g. social media, scrolling).
Let hunger and simplicity become an offering that draws your heart toward compassion and dependence on God. Make your fast and prayer about a personal spiritual, or other need, someone who needs prayer, your church, the nation, etc.
During the fast:
Read a psalm or passage of surrender (such as Psalm 63 or Matthew 6).
Direct your prayer throughout your fasting period on your chosen focus.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” — Matthew 5:6

5. Weekly Loving Action
Be intentional about at least one visible act of mercy or kindness each week.
This could be helping someone in need, encouraging a stranger, or offering forgiveness.
These small deeds weave the love of Christ into the fabric of everyday life.

Monthly Rhythms
1. Solitude and Silence
Take time once a month to step away from noise and busyness.
Find a quiet place — a garden, chapel, or walk — and simply be with God.
Listen for His still, small voice.
You may:
Bring your Bible and journal.
Ask: “Lord, what are You teaching me in this season?”
Spend time in silence, resting in His presence.
“In quietness and trust is your strength.” — Isaiah 30:15

2. Community Service
Each month, seek to serve in a practical way — individually or through your local church outreaches.
Visit the lonely, feed the hungry, tend the earth, or help those in distress.
Service is worship in motion — a living echo of Jesus’ love for the world.
“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for Me.” — Matthew 25:40

3. Giving and Simplicity
At the start of each month, review your finances and possessions prayerfully.
Ask God: “Am I using what You’ve given me for Your Kingdom?”
Practice generosity — giving to your church, missions, or those in need.
Simplicity frees the heart to treasure what truly matters.

4. Reflection and Renewal
Before each new month begins, spend time in gratitude and reflection:
What have I learned this month?
Where have I seen God’s faithfulness?
What might the Spirit be inviting me into next?
Write down your reflections in your journal.
This practice will slowly trace your spiritual growth over time.

Annual Renewal
Once each year, the Fellowship gathers for a retreat — physically or spiritually — to remember the journey, renew commitments, and celebrate the grace of God.
It is a time of rejoicing, reflection, and recommitment to walking the Way of Christ.
“They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.” — Psalm 84:7

Daily Practices – a more detailed guide

A Simple Daily Guide to Walking the Way
For Participants in The Fellowship of The Way

The Heart of the Practice
This guide is designed for those who desire to follow Jesus more intentionally in daily life — even with full schedules and busy days.
It’s not about perfection, but direction — walking faithfully, step by step, in the Way of Christ.
Begin small, spending one hour each day, then once these practices become a daily habit, you can extend your time in any of the areas. For some, one hour will be enough, while others may build up to two or more hours a day. The important thing is to do it – actually take the time to spend time with God and grow spiritually.
These rhythms are simple enough for every believer to follow. They can be completed in about 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening, with small moments of awareness throughout the day.
Remember: new habits can be formed in as little as 21 days of consistent practice. As these disciplines become habits, they will also become your joy and second nature.

Suggested approach to the daily practices:

Morning Practice (Approx. 30 Minutes)
1. Morning Prayer – 10 minutes
Begin your day by greeting God, praising and thanking Him.
Pray the Lord’s Prayer slowly, then speak freely from your heart.
Offer your day to Him — your work, relationships, your service, thoughts, and desires.
“In the morning, Lord, You hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before You and wait expectantly.” — Psalm 5:3

2. Waiting on God – 10 minutes
Sit quietly before the Lord.
Breathe deeply. Invite the Holy Spirit to fill and guide you.
Listen for His voice and become aware of His Presence — not necessarily speaking words, but communion with the Lord.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

3. Scripture Reading & Meditation – 10 minutes
Read a short passage from the Gospels, epistles or your daily reading plan.
(Some of us read through the New Testament, a chapter a day, beginning at Acts and ending at Revelation in the morning, and read a chapter from one of the gospels in the evening. Others follow a ‘Read the Bible in a Year’ guide.)
Reflect on what God is saying to you personally.
Ask:
– What does this reveal about Jesus?
– How can I apply this truth to my daily life?
Keep a small journal for insights or prayers.

4. Praise and Thanksgiving – 5-10 minutes
Offer words or songs of gratitude.
Thank Him for His faithfulness, presence, and mercy.
Rejoice in the gift of life and salvation.

Throughout the Day
Practising the Presence of God
Remember that Jesus walks with you. Whisper short prayers of thanksgiving or surrender:
“Thank You, Lord.”
“Guide me, Holy Spirit.”
“Jesus, I trust You.”
Let work, conversations, and stillness all become acts of worship.

Loving Action
Be intentional about one act of love, kindness, or forgiveness each day.
It could be a word of encouragement, a helping hand, or an unseen prayer.
These small acts become sacred seeds of grace.
“Let all that you do be done in love.” — 1 Corinthians 16:14

Evening Practice (Approx. 30 Minutes)

1. Evening Prayer – 10 minutes
Set aside time to end the day with God’s peace.
Pray a simple prayer of thanks for His presence and care.

2. Reflection – 10 minutes
Look back over the day:
– Where did I sense God’s grace or guidance?
– Where did I fall short or lose awareness?
– Who or what can I lift to Him in prayer?
Confess freely, receive His forgiveness, and rest in His mercy.

3. Scripture or Devotional Reading – 10 minutes
Read a short psalm, a verse of encouragement, or a Christian devotional.
Let His Word be the final voice you hear before sleep.

Encouragement for the Journey
Begin small and consistent — grace grows through rhythm.
Don’t rush; these moments are about relationship, not performance.
Over time, as your heart awakens, your time with God will naturally deepen.
Encourage a friend or family member to join you; shared habits strengthen faith.

“Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls.”
— Jeremiah 6:16

The Fellowship of The Way

Believers walking side by side along the Ancient Paths, living our lives modelled on the teachings and example of Jesus Christ.
—————
1. Our Calling
We, the members of The Fellowship of The Way, are pilgrims on the road of faith — followers of Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Our purpose is to walk together in His footsteps, learning His ways, living His words, and loving as He loved.
We walk the Pilgrim’s Road, not to earn God’s favour, but to live from it. When we intentionally make time in our daily life to seek the Lord and wait on Him, we position ourselves to hear His voice and to grow spiritually. We seek the Ancient Paths, where holiness and mercy meet, and where the dust of our Master’s feet marks the way ahead.
“Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths… and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” — Jeremiah 6:16
—————
2. Our Foundation — Life in the Spirit
Every member of the Fellowship is called first to be born again through faith in Jesus Christ, receiving new life through His death and resurrection. We believe the Christian journey begins with spiritual rebirth and continues in the power of the Holy Spirit, who indwells, guides, and transforms every believer to walk as Jesus walked.
We seek to walk continuously in the Spirit — listening for His voice, yielding to His leading, and bearing the fruit of love, joy, peace, and holiness.
Our beliefs are guided by the Holy Scriptures and The Apostle’s Creed.
“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” — Galatians 5:25
—————
3. Our Commitments
Each member of the Fellowship seeks to live the Gospel rhythm through daily disciplines of prayer, Scripture reading, praise and worship, simplicity, gratitude, loving action, and connection with others. Weekly, we study the Word together, gather for fellowship and worship, fast, and serve in our communities (intentional acts of service). Annually, we renew our commitment to continue our journey as followers of Jesus, through retreat (preferably with your study group), celebrating God’s faithfulness as we continue on the Pilgrim’s Road.
—————
4. Our Spiritual Commitments — The Heart of the Pilgrim
We embrace five gospel-shaped commitments as guides for our journey:

1. Simplicity — to walk lightly on the earth.
2. Purity of Heart — to seek holiness in all things.
3. Obedience to Christ — to follow His Spirit faithfully and obey His commands, including to go and make disciples.
4. Community — to walk together in service, love and forgiveness.
5. Mission — to bring the light of Christ to the world.

“If you love me, keep my commandments… Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” – John 14:15, 23.
—————
5. Our Renewal — Continuing the Journey
Each year, members reflect on their spiritual journey and renew their commitment to continue walking the Way of Jesus with humility and joy, trusting not in their strength, but in the grace of Christ, who walks beside us.

“Come, follow Me,” said Jesus. “Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” — John 8:12
—————
We are a group of ordinary disciples
The Fellowship of The Way is not a registered organization, denomination, or legal entity. It holds no assets, offices, or financial accounts and assumes no legal or financial responsibility for its members. Participation in this Fellowship is entirely voluntary and personal. Each member chooses to walk the Way of Christ as an individual disciple before God, freely joining with others in spiritual fellowship, prayer, and mutual encouragement.
—————
The Fellowship of The Way — Covenant of Commitment
“As a pilgrim on the Way of Jesus Christ, I offer myself anew to walk in His footsteps, obey His teachings, as I am guided and empowered by His Spirit and sustained by His grace.”
I believe that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and that through faith in Him I have been forgiven, cleansed and born again by the Spirit of God.
In response to His mercy and call, I commit myself — freely and joyfully — to walk the Pilgrim’s Road with my brothers and sisters in The Fellowship of The Way.
I aim to live by the Rule of Life of this Fellowship: to pray, worship and study Scripture daily, to love deeply, to walk humbly, and to serve faithfully in the power of the Holy Spirit.
I will seek the Ancient Paths, where holiness and mercy meet, and I will follow Jesus — the Shepherd and Companion of my soul — wherever He leads.
With God’s help, I will walk this Way until my journey’s end, when faith becomes sight and love remains forever.

“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” — Galatians 5:25
“He who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:24
